Try to find out who the player with the best hand is as early in the game as possible. That player should be your main target. Knowing which player is leading the game when the heads - up showdown is getting closer will help you a lot.

Placing big wagers or raises is a no - no unless you find the player with the best hand.

Make a call only when you are sure that you will be allowed to raise.

Don't show the cards in your hands unless the other players are ready to pay you big. Letting emotions interfere with your game is a mistake in online poker.

Always remember, playing aggressively is a good thing only if you are sure you have the cards to go with it. It is a good idea to win as much cash as possible while taking the least amount of risk.

Before starting to play, it is important to set up a limit. You have to make up your mind that you will stop playing after that limit has been crossed.

5 Ways to Improve Your Pre-Flop Game

5 Ways to Improve Your Pre-Flop Game
1) Take control preflop - Try coming in for a raise whenever you play a hand. I know this is tough, but taking initiative every time you open a pot will be very important to becoming a successful player, especially in no limit hold 'em.
2) Controlling tilt - Try to not care. As hard as that sounds you have to want to win but be OK with losing. I have losing weeks sometimes, and I try to remain positive. It always comes back around but if you tilt and continue to play it just won't work out.
3) Exercise! - Most people realize you have to be mentally tough to succeed in poker, but people don't realize the physical aspect of it. Most players don't take the time to work out or eat well, but let me tell you, it helps. Last year I made a sick run online and it all happened after I started working out. I also have got on a new plan for eating well and working out, and since then I have been playing well and winning.
4) Don't fall in love with your hand preflop - If you were playing a tournament, and you raise with TT and I re-raise you back. Chances are your TT is not very good (in the first few levels of a tournament). Try just folding this hand, because you are essentially set mining and have no idea where you are in the hand.
5) Taking breaks - I have written some articles on this, and find this to be supremely important while playing poker. Last year during WSOP I played 6 events, cashed in zero. I had three bubbles and the last tournament I made a dumb play to bust. The next day was an event I really wanted to play, the 2500 PLO/PLH mixed event. I decided to just drive out to Cali, and go to the beach and relax. So I did, I missed the tournament I really wanted to play so I could get my mind right. Low and behold it worked, the first event I played after I got back I took 3rd in a 3k buyin'.

Protecting Yourself From the Dangers of Internet Gambling

Protecting Yourself From the Dangers of Internet Gambling
The smaller and newer a site is, the more risk there is that you will not be able to get money back when you win. They may be running a scam, or even if they are a legitimate company, there is risk that they will go bankrupt and not be able to pay their debts. You may not be able to claim the money that you rightfully won.
The first thing to consider, when choosing a site, is looking for a well-populated poker room that has established a long track record of paying their debts when a withdrawal is requested. Party Poker, Poker Stars, Paradise Poker, and Ultimate Bet are some of the oldest and most well established sites you should consider, when choosing where to play.
The Random Number Generator
Something else to be aware of is that each poker site simulates things like shuffling and cards dealt by using a random number generator. It's very important that no one can predict what cards are being dealt to other players because, if they could, it would be very easy for them to always play correctly and win all your money.
It's not very likely that you'll find a poker site that doesn't have a very good randomizer, however, since it's in their best interest to give everyone a fair chance to win. Also, there is a regulatory commission, which licenses these sites and checks such things. Sites are also subject to independent auditing.
Audit Inspections:
Inspections from the auditing companies are always random and unannounced. The servers running the software are all examined, as is the programming being used. Also, there are laws in place, which require all Internet poker sites to get a license that can only be given by the Kahnawake Gaming Agency. They set the rules and regulations that all poker sites have to follow in order to get licensed. They will revoke the license if a site is not carefully following all of these rules.
There's also the consideration of how much personal and financial information you are giving out, when you deposit money on a poker site. It's possible that a computer hacker could try to get past the security of the poker site and gain access to your credit card or checking account information. It's even possible that the poker site employees themselves may sell lists of their players to other companies. In this day and age we all know the dangers of identity theft and it could happen, if you willingly give too much information to the wrong site.
Addiction Chances:
Perhaps the biggest risk of playing poker online is the chance you take of getting addicted. Online gaming makes it very easy to lose track of how much you've lost and even the best players have periods of time where the cards just aren't kind. Remember that poker can be a fun game, but never deposit more than you're willing to lose. Poker sites make money from players, so only a small portion of those players can come away ahead consistently.

Poker Hands

Poker Hands
Poker hands are always five cards. They are the first thing you have to learn if you want to play poker. They fall into one of several categories, such as flush, straight, or two pair. Poker hands win or lose according to their strength (assuming you get to the showdown) so knowing where various poker hands appear in the official poker rankings is essential.
The winning hand take all the pot. According to those who are knowledgeable about poker, poker hand rankings may affect the position of players in a game. Their strategies may also be based or dependent on the cards that they have so it is advantageous for players if they are well-informed about poker hand rankings. According to the strict hierarchy of card's value we differentiate the ranks of poker. Only five cards make a poker hand, it always consists of 5 cards.
Ace is the highest ranked, followed by K, Q, and J down to two, which is the lowest, ranked. Single cards play an important role in deciding the winner among players when no deciding combinations are possible. Aces are always a 'low' card when considering a low hand. Please also note that the value of a five-card low hand starts with the top card, and goes down from there.
If two players have Two Pair, the hand with the highest Pair wins. If they have the same high Pair, whoever has the second highest Pair in their hand wins. Since suits have no relative value in poker, two hands can be considered identical if one hand can be transformed into the other by swapping suits.
Poker hands fall into one of several categories, such as flush, straight, or two pair. The player whose hand is in the higher category wins. Poker hands decide who wins and who loses. Poker hands are the first thing you have to learn if you want to play poker.

Bots on Online Poker Sites

Bots on Online Poker Sites
To err is human. People tend to make errors in general and take it as a way of life. So when you play on real tables and with champions too, you can rest on the fact that they too will make errors. The champions keep the probability factor in mind, but they too take the odd chances. You have the chance to win there. But how will you win against robots.
Chess analogy
The master computers that are developed to play champion chess players have been loaded with a million probabilities that they remember in less than a second. It becomes very hard to defeat them. Still, chess is not based on luck and good players have a great chance to turn the table. In a game of luck and skill like poker, it is hard to beat robots or 'bots'.
Capitalization
While playing online poker, you don't see the players, only identities. This has been capitalized upon. Many robots have been invented to pay online poker with you. Only don't realize that while playing. They are festooned with probabilities, big pot chances, reading of the game and other points. You may or may not realize when to fold or call, but these robots will use the probable idea and not go for unnecessary calls. You get good cards in less then half of the raked hands. But you take your chances in more than 70 percent of game. That makes a huge margin of win-loss. These robots play only when they have the cards, and the kill you while on the river.
How to understand that robots are present?
Try thinking of how a robot would play the game. There will be professional touch involved. Then look for yourself as to how many players are doing it that way. Chances are that these are robots. They are there to hollow your capital. The house won't lose, as the player's pot will be distributed among them. So you, the humans stand to lose big time.
The error factor
Human players are ruffled by a number of losses and lose the plot. That is where the robots have an edge. They are not emotionally attached to the game. They play it in a practical manner. They know that most often, the cards will not come their way. Even their bluffing is programmed and online, you will never be able to make out. It is much like a random selection of cards on the computer games.
This is how the robots or 'bots' are making and raising online money. There is no way one can put an end to that. This may be called cross-breed cheating but that is how the cookie crumbles.

Is Online Poker Returning To The United States?

Is Online Poker Returning To The United States?
In what was a very small occurrence with what may be much wider ranging implications, the Illinois State Lottery recently became the first American lottery provider to sell tickets online.
This may sound strange to non-U.S. citizens but it's not through a lack of technological capability. The reason dates back to 1961 and the Wire Act, a piece of legislation which prohibited betting on sports events via the telephone. Until recently, uncertainty about whether this Act also restricted online casino and lottery gaming meant that no one risked breaching the law.
That was until December 2011 when the U.S. Department of Justice decided that the Wire Act only restricted sports betting online and not other activities, which include online gambling. The Illinois State Lottery was the first to offer this service and other States will surely follow.
But how does this affect the once huge market for online poker? What about blackjack and roulette? That's a more complicated matter. These games still suffer from the effects of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) 2006 which prohibited the transfer of money to websites offering these games.
Some states are trying to find their own routes around this legislation. While all poker fans would prefer the federal government to regulate this industry and get it back on it's feet, currently it looks as if it will be up to the more progressive States to get the ball rolling.
Nevada is the furthest along this particular track - at one point the bricks and mortar casino industry in Las Vegas and Reno were set against online gaming, fearing their revenues would be hit. They now appear to have seen the writing on the wall and accepted that this will happen sooner or later. Consequently some have entered into partnerships with existing non-U.S. online casinos to set up the necessary infrastructure in preparation for statewide regulation.
Nevada also boasts the Nevada Gaming Commission which is already in the process of setting up a regulatory framework to govern intrastate online gaming. In the absence of any federal, nationwide regulation, American poker players can only hope that the number of states which are willing to press ahead with their own gaming networks will reach a sort of critical mass which will force the governments hand.
The Illinois State Lottery is a small start but hopefully the first step back on the road to sensible Casino legislation.

Multi-Table Overview For Playing Poker

Multi-Table Overview For Playing Poker
Some of the best poker players in the world play at more then fifteen poker tables at the same time in the same poker room. This is known as multi-table playing, and they are making a living off of it. In order to successfully play like this it takes a lot of concentration and complete focus on playing poker. You cannot be doing anything else except for playing poker. Frankly, it takes a very special person to be able to consistently win playing this style of poker.
While it may seem pretty scary to play fifteen tables at the same time, if you can get good at it; you can make a lot of money doing it. The only problem is that there is a completely different strategy that is involved when you are playing that many tables at the same time. You have to be able to play a different style of poker when you are playing so many tables at once. Different people are able to play different amounts of tables. Even three or four tables at the same time can be a tough task to try and accomplish.
The Math
Poker is a game of math and probabilities no matter what kind of poker game you are playing in. If you are going to play multi-tables then you really have to focus on the math. Instantly, that becomes the absolute most important focus in your strategy. If you do not know the math then you have to go learn it. You are not going to be able to be a good multi-table player if you cannot handle the math and making mathematically correct decisions.
When you are playing ten games at once it will not be very easy to keep track of all your opponents, although you should still try. You will have to rely more on the odds and making the right decisions based on the mathematical part of poker. Bluffing, reading players and trying to outplay opponents do not matter as much as making the right decisions based on the math. You are not going to have a problem folding hands, so your main focus is going to be making as much money out of the ones that are good.
The nice thing about playing so many games at once is that you will never get bored and you will be looking for hands to fold. The hard part is that you will want to fold hands that you shouldn't fold. You have to be able to think quickly and calculate what is in the pot and what is being bet as quickly as possible. Once you get used to it, you will be calculating like it is your second nature. Getting used to it is the hardest part about multi-table play.
Another important aspect of playing like this is to be properly equipped to play a lot of tables. You are not going to be able to play 10 tables on your 15 inch laptop screen. Players that play 20 games at once have four monitors hooked up to their computer and they are very organized. They are constantly looking at every table and figuring out what is going on with their hands, pots and opponents. It takes a whole other skill level and technique to play like this. Start off slow and work your way up. If you only play one table then move up and play two tables. Do not move up any more until you are completely comfortable playing with two tables. Before you know it you will be playing as many tables as you would like.

Profit From Draw Poker in 2011

Profit From Draw Poker in 2011
Draw poker is the traditional form of poker and was played prolifically in high stakes cash games in the nineteenth century and early twentieth century. It has fallen from grace in recent years with Texas hold'em the traditional game of choice for the modern poker player, but there is a dedicated section of the online poker community that ensures if you wish to play this exciting form of cards you can find a game to participate in.
Draw poker involves each player being dealt five cards and betting or folding based on the strength of their hand. After the first betting round, players can exchange cards from their hand and "draw" from the deck. They can choose to exchange any number of cards including their entire hand if they wish for five new cards. After players have drawn their cards another betting round takes place and if two or more players remain in the hand at this point there is a showdown. The strength and type of winning hands are ranked in the same order as other forms of poker such as Texas hold'em.
There are fixed limit games, pot limit games and no limit draw poker games but your bankroll can stretch further as there are only two betting rounds. Lesser known poker games like draw are increasing in popularity and learning strategy will help you against the weaker opposition.
The general standard of play in draw poker games are softer than no limit hold'em games played at similar stakes where the games are usually filled with good poker players, but not necessarily good draw poker players. Often no limit hold'em experts can get bored with playing multiple tables and want a change of game to keep poker feeling fresh to them. They choose a game like draw but they are not as good at this game so you have a better chance to beat them.
Try out draw poker and you will find it is very entertaining. Like all forms of poker, it is easy to learn and difficult to master. The good news is softer tables await you once you have put in the study you need to become a draw poker expert.
